Robert the Bruce, one of Scotland’s most legendary kings,

has ties to Lochmaben?
 

According to legend, after suffering defeat in battle, Bruce took refuge in a cave where he watched a spider tirelessly trying to spin its web. Despite failing several times, the spider kept trying until it succeeded – inspiring Bruce to keep fighting for Scotland’s independence.

Lochmaben itself is steeped in Bruce’s legacy, as it’s believed to be his birthplace and home to Lochmaben Castle, once the ancestral seat of the Bruce family. To honour this iconic heritage, Lochmaben FC have created a special 2024/25 Away Shirt, celebrating the town’s connection to the legendary king and his story of perseverance.
